STUDYING GENRE

What kind of movie am I trying to make? The kind of movie I am trying to make is a Teen Romance/ Drama. I was inspired by the 'To All The Boys I Loved" Sequel and the 13 reasons why series.  What are the basic genre conventions of my movie (themes, style, characters, etc.)? Teen Dramas/ Romance  usually have the same conventions over and over. They look at situations that occur in  teenagers'  life. There is often an unpopular or 'new kid' in school. But the main thing is there is always a love interest between characters. What do the opening sequences look like in other films of my genre? How does an opening sequence reveal meaning and tone without giving away too much? How much action really happens in the first 2 minutes of a film? Complete a detailed shot-by-shot analysis using screenshots. Other Opening Scenes usually don't conceal the character but talk about their problem and what their social status is.  When the Character is narrating over the action

LETS TALK

Let’s be honest, I was completely clueless when we first started this project. I didn’t know what I was going to film, what genre I was going to use, or where to start. For a couple of days, I started researching different genres and looking at some movies I have heard of or at least seen. I liked Drama the best so I started envisioning a movie I would watch in my head. What came to mind was a plot similar to a Netflix Original movie called “ To All The Boys I loved”. This movie s labeled as a Teen Drama and personally, I love this movie. When I first thought of it I watched the opening scene of both movies and wrote down some conventions I remember throughout the movie: a love interest, some type of hurt, and a wardrobe change. I instantly thought of a plot where a teenage girl has her heartbroken by her best friend and boyfriend but then becomes the most popular girl in school and finds someone new. Yea I know right… cringy, but since I am only doing the first two minutes of the movi

WHAT WE LEARNED

Example One: As we begin our projects Mrs. Landis taught us a few ways to conceal who a character is.  For our first example, we watched "How an Opening Scene Tells the Whole Story", on Youtube. It focused on the opening scene of a movie.  The man in the video who I believe was the director or the Cinematographer explained why he made such choices in lighting and the angles in which the scenes were filmed. Mrs. Landis went on and told the class the reason for this was to conceal the character for a long period of time so we (the audience) can be intrigued by our curiosity. The man also explained he gave his actor a little bit of control so they would think to themselves.                                              Example 2: As we wrapped up Example 1, Mrs. Landis also showed the opening scene to the movie "The Hate U Give". She explained to us that the director made a few changes to the Chronological order of the scenes compared to

Opening Credits Vs. Title Sequence

I started researching my three questions of the day. First, I researched, "What is the purpose of Opening Credits?". I didn't find much information since everything was a Blog, so instead, I researched "What is Opening Credits?". I found much more information from: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TitleSequence https://www.slideshare.net/daniellabenson/what-is-an-opening-sequence-34380551 Opening Credits are what is shown at the beginning of a movie or show and list the most important roles of the production.  Then I researched my second question, "What is the difference between Opening and Title Sequence?" but nothing came up so I decided to make my own response by just researching "What is a Title sequence?" I got some great resource from: https://booksite.elsevier.com/samplechapters/9780240814193/02~Chapter_1.pdf A title sequence is the  presentation of the movie/shows  title  and key production crew and cast members, using co

Creating A Blog Process

Mrs. Landis allowed us to create Blogs Today! She made an assignment in Canvas that explained how to create a blog. The website I used was blogger.com.To create an account I used my gmail account so I don't have to remember my password. Next, I was taken to my home page. On the home page I was allowed to press new blog. This allowed me to creat a blog name, Url, and name for my Profile. I started to play around with the buttons and fonts/colors. Mrs Landis gave us blog samples of past students so I thought it was best to look at different organization of each blog. They gave me a sense of how to talk in my blog post and make it non boring. It also allowed me to see how to cite evidence and not make it sound like a story but an interesting experience.
